My journey in finance began in the halls of my childhood home, where my father, a dedicated financial advisor, would share stories of how smart investments could transform lives. Those early conversations around our dinner table in Ashford planted the seeds of what would become my life’s passion.
During my formative years at Ashford College (1979-1980), I discovered my analytical mindset and deep fascination with market dynamics. This led me to Ernst & Young in 1998, where I spent twelve transformative years honing my expertise in audit and M&A. Each transaction taught me that success in investment isn’t just about capital – it’s about understanding the human stories behind the numbers.
My transition to Sovereign Capital in 2010 marked a pivotal moment, allowing me to directly shape investment strategies. The subsequent roles at RBS and Lyceum Capital further refined my approach to investment management. When I joined Horizon Capital in 2018, it wasn’t just another career move – it was the culmination of a vision to create an investment firm that truly partners with businesses for transformative growth.
Looking ahead, I see tremendous opportunities in emerging technologies and sustainable business models. My goal is to continue identifying and nurturing companies that will shape tomorrow’s economy.
Family, Values, and Balance
My father’s influence extends beyond my career choice – his principles of integrity and perseverance shape how I approach both business and family life. I met my wife Sarah during my early days at Ernst & Young, and together we’ve built a life that balances professional ambition with family values.
As a father myself, I strive to instill the same curiosity and work ethic in my children that my father instilled in me. Weekends often find me coaching my son’s football team or helping my daughter with her entrepreneurial projects. When I’m not in the office, you’ll find me on the golf course, where I not only pursue my passion for the sport but also teach my children the parallels between golf and business – patience, strategy, and the importance of the long game.
